Hot Shot

The meeting Tuesday was a success. I feel that maybe few more understand a bit more about where the band program is going. Certainly I didn't sugar coat anything. The tasks ahead are difficult and it's not going to get easier. Everybody must do their part.

To be satisfied is to be complacent,

To be complacent is to be unaware,

To be unaware is to be defeated.

Will It Work?

I have tried as hard as I ever have to make DF work. I think things are going well but I have to say that I thought I might be getting better results at this point. Of course on paper things look well. I just got word today that my concert band will receive a Superior rating. This means that for the second year, and my second year at DF, both of my bands will get Superior ratings. I am happy and proud of that fact. I just want it all and I guess my frustrations come from the thoughts that not everybody wants it as bad as I do. Nothing new with these thoughts though. One time somebody called a former assistant of mine to ask what they thought about working with me and they said, "be aware he (me) will want you to want success as badly as he does. He will expect it." Put that on my tombstone if you want too. I will take it.

The Big Meeting

Tonight is a big meeting for us. All of the current band students and parents have been invited to my band room. This is usually one of the largest meetings we have all year. I really like to see the new faces and tell people about why band is so important to me. I love to hear the new questions and the new ideas. We are so close to making a huge turn toward becoming the one of premier band programs in the Southeast. The new uniform will also be unveiled! Hopefully it will be standing room only.
