What happened to Fall?

It was summer again today. I like it hot! Our band does well in the heat too. It is pretty strange. Today was a good day and a pleasant surprise. I thought we might have some morale problems with two 3rd place finishes on Saturday. We did not. Every student was present and worked very hard. They seem to get it. All these pre-state contests are fun, and it is really cool to win them but it is Lower State and State that matters most. If it was up to me we would go out of state to two BOA contest and then just show up at state. We have got to get clean to have a chance. My assistant said today "we could do 20 pages less of drill and still have the toughest drill in the state!" That may be true but at least for this year we have to clean it. We are playing well and will continue to build on that aspect, but we have to learn to march. Intervals and step offs are the key.

I am very proud of the attitude of my students today. It means we are growing up as a band and a band program. This means more to me than a win at a local competition. Thank you to them for that.

Tomorrow we have a new strategy to clean the drill. Get ready kids I think you are about to get a lot better really quick.

Football Game: Friday, Oct. 6 at home versus Airport – Homecoming
Report Time for Game: 6:15 p.m. in full uniform
Performance: After the game
Dismissal: 10:45 p.m.

Lowcountry Invitational Marching Band Festival at Wando High School on October 7, 2006

Report to the band room: 11:00 a.m.
Depart for Wando: 11:30 a.m.
Arrive at Wando: 2:00 p.m.
Dress at Wando: 2:30 p.m.
Warm-up: 3:30 p.m.
At the Gate: 4:35 p.m.
Competition Performance: 4:45 p.m.
Change out of Uniforms and load equipment: 5:15 p.m.
Return to Stadium to watch other bands: 5:45 p.m.
Awards at Wando: 9:00 p.m.
Depart Wando: 9:30 p.m.
Return to Swansea: 11:30 p.m.
Dismissal: 11:45 p.m.

We will not rehearse Saturday before the competition. We will be dressing at Wando. Lunch will be provided for you but you should bring a small amount of money for dinner at Wando. Please be where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to there. Do everything you can to make sure we are the best we can be Saturday. You must bring your show shirt and shorts or jeans with you as we will change. As always, we will stand at attention during the awards ceremony only. We are so close to being great. Just keep doing your best.
